When you have another, try cleaning the slots with a soft toothbrush inside and using alcohol. Blow out with compressed air. Yes, it will add more RAM. Add as many as your motherboard will support. However it would be better to add two with the same total memory as three due to dual channel memory being faster. The third stick won't be part of dual channel. i.e. 3 x 4gb RAM (12 total) is definitely way better than 2 x 4gb (8 total).

Totally unrelated but I too recently found 2 dimm slots (dual mode) not working on an S1150 Board. After removing the CPU I noticed that one pin was slightly bent, after 3 or 4 goes at straightening and reseating CPU it finally made contact and now all 4 dimm slots work. To check the new RAM wasn't defective, I tried it in slot 1, a known good slot. All 4 sticks of RAM worked in slot 1, so the RAM wasn't faulty. All 4 sticks work in every slot except slot 2 (the first black RAM slot). If I put any stick in slot 2 - old or new - the PC is dead, it won't even boot to the BIOS.
